Morgantown, West Virginia – Earlier today, Zeiqui Lawton, the former West Virginia high school defensive player of the year, committed to play for the West Virginia Mountaineers. Lawton, the #2 ranked player in the state of West Virginia as a senior in high school, transferred from Cincinnati last week.
Lawton’s brother, Mari Lawton, a 6’4 250 pound defensive lineman out of Charleston, West Virginia, is the #1 high school player in the state in the 2023 class.
Mari Lawton has offers from Arkansas State, Cincinnati, Coastal Carolina, Florida A&M, Marshall, Miami (Ohio), Bowling Green, Eastern Kentucky, Tennessee State and Toledo. Although West Virginia hasn’t formally offered a scholarship to Lawton, he was in town with his brother Zeiqui this past weekend on an unofficial visit and enjoyed his trip to Morgantown.

Neal Brown has made keeping in-state talent home to play for the Mountaineers and Mari Lawton is the very best West Virginia has to offer in 2023. With him being the top-ranked player in the state and his brother committing to the Mountaineers today, look for Mari Lawton to soon join his brother in Morgantown.
