Mountaineer fans were holding out hope that somehow we may get a 2020 edition of the Backyard Brawl in this hectic year. However, with the ACC’s release of their schedule this morning, that is officially off the table.

According to Brett McMurphy of Stadium, the schedule release has Pitt playing Miami (Ohio) for their one conference game — officially ending any hope either the Panthers or Mountaineers had of meeting on the gridiron.

As of right now, West Virginia will be playing Eastern Kentucky for their one non-conference game. Set for September 12th, this will all depend on what the Ohio Valley Conference decides to do with their fall sports. The possibility is there that they may cancel along with the large amount of FCS conferences who have already called off the season.

It’s disappointing, but the Backyard Brawl isn’t far from resuming. West Virginia and Pitt are currently set to renew the series in 2022.
