Morgantown, WV – Yesterday, WVU fans were met with the news that Rich Rodriguez would be the football program’s 36th head coach. Today, the school officially announced the hiring. Fans have started to speculate who might fill out Rodriguez’s staff during his second stint with the Mountaineers. Some seem to believe that he will bring in some of his Jacksonville State staff to WVU with him, but as WVU fans have learned, that isn’t always the easiest transition for a program.

While that news should reach headlines in the coming days, there is one addition that makes sense for the Mountaineers. It is one that fans would undoubtedly show support for.

WVU legend Pat White as the school’s quarterback coach.

I know, I know. Just because they were a great player doesn’t mean they would make a great coach. But White brings experience to the table that no quarterbacks coach under Neal Brown brought.

White has served as a quarterbacks coach for Alcorn State and Alabama State. He also served as a running backs coach for South Florida, and notched NFL experience under his belt as an offensive assistant for the Los Angeles Chargers.

His resume is one that brings a lot of intrigue. With the experience and knowledge for the game, White could help attract top-notch signal-caller talent to the Mountaineers. If his game could translate to his coaching, there is no doubt that he would be an incredible addition to WVU’s staff.

White played under Rodriguez from 2005-2007, so the two have a relationship that could easily transition over into the coaching ranks.

Only time will tell if Rodriguez decides to give White a place on WVU’s staff. But if Rodriguez has the same kind of love for White that Mountaineer fans do, there is no doubt that it will happen eventually.
