Morgantown, WV – Spring practice has officially concluded in Morgantown. The West Virginia University Football program held their annual Gold-Blue Spring Showcase on Saturday, giving more than 10,000 fans their first peek at the 2025 Mountaineers.

While fans were introduced to many new faces this past weekend, the next couple of weeks will be for saying goodbye to some players on the roster. As the NCAA is set to enforce their new rule of a maximum of 105 players on each roster in college football, Rich Rodriguez will be tasked with making roster cuts to meet this number.

Throughout spring practice, Rodriguez has acknowledged that the cuts were incoming. The plan is for meetings to be held this week to discuss player’s roles with the team this fall, as well as to remove some from the program.

While the players who will be removed from the roster are not ones who would have contributed in 2025, it is still a discussion that Rodriguez dreads. Despite pleading that the NCAA should allow current players to be “grandfathered in,” many walk-on players will be seeking a new home come the fall.

There is currently no timetable for when we can expect these cuts to become public.

Stay tuned to The Voice of Morgantown for updates on roster cuts over the next couple of weeks.
