MORGANTOWN, West Virginia — West Virginia has landed one of the most explosive playmakers in the junior college ranks. Martavious Boswell, one of the top JUCO running backs in the nation, has officially committed to the Mountaineers, giving WVU one of the fastest and most dangerous backfield additions in recent program history.
Boswell, who starred at Copiah-Lincoln Community College, visited Morgantown over the weekend and quickly narrowed his recruitment to a final four of West Virginia, Kansas State, Mississippi State, and Tulsa. Today, the Mountaineers closed the deal.

An Elite JUCO Superstar
Boswell’s production this season speaks for itself. In just 10 games, he rushed for:
-
1,109 yards
-
13 touchdowns
-
8.5 yards per carry
That type of efficiency is rare at any level. His speed and explosiveness made him one of the most coveted junior college prospects in the country. In fact, Boswell posted a verified 4.3-second 40-yard dash and an elite 10.36 100-meter time, placing him among the fastest athletes to join a Power Conference program this cycle.
Simply put: Boswell is a home-run hitter every time he touches the football.
A Loaded Offer List And WVU Wins Out
Boswell’s recruitment attracted more than a dozen FBS programs before he trimmed his list. Schools that offered but ultimately didn’t make the cut include:
Arkansas State, Charlotte, Kennesaw State, Liberty, Louisiana Tech, Marshall, Missouri State, New Mexico State, Old Dominion, Southern Miss, Texas State, Toledo, Troy, UL Monroe, UTEP, UTSA, Washington State, and Western Michigan.
With so many suitors and four finalists, West Virginia’s win in this recruitment shows just how aggressively and effectively the Mountaineers are attacking the transfer and JUCO market under Rich Rodriguez.
A Perfect Fit for WVU’s Backfield
Boswell joins a running back room already featuring breakout star Jahiem White, freshman standout Diore Hubbard, and a host of young, emerging talent. Adding a player with Boswell’s speed, vision, and big-play ability gives WVU a dynamic one-two punch—and in reality, a three-headed monster.
In Rodriguez’s offense, which thrives on misdirection, tempo, and perimeter explosiveness, Boswell’s skill set is nearly ideal. His acceleration through the hole and elite track speed give WVU a running back capable of flipping the field in an instant.
What This Means for WVU
Boswell’s commitment is another major recruiting win for Rich Rodriguez, who continues shaping a roster built on speed, versatility, and explosiveness. With Boswell on board, West Virginia’s 2026 class becomes even more formidable and the Mountaineer offense gains another weapon who can take pressure off quarterback Scotty Fox and keep defenses honest.
The Bottom Line
West Virginia just added a JUCO star with game-changing speed, elite production, and Power Conference physical traits. Martavious Boswell is a difference-maker, and his arrival takes the Mountaineers’ backfield from “dangerous” to downright terrifying.
A huge recruiting win and a huge step forward for WVU’s offensive firepower.
