Pittsburgh, PA – Former WVU standout Zach Frazier has made a splash in the NFL. After being selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Fairmont, West Virginia native has quickly became a force on the team’s offensive line.
Earlier today, Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers spoke with the media during the team’s training camp. Rodgers, who will presumably be the starter for Pittsburgh, spoke highly of Frazier.
Here is what Rodgers had to say:
Zach is so freaking smart. He’s making some calls for me. I told him the other day ‘don’t get used to that. At some point, I’m going to be making calls for you.’

Rodgers went on to say, “It starts and ends with that kid… He’s super smart… I’m not what I’d call an expert yet… I become an expert when you break the huddle.”
He jokingly added Frazier’s play-calling swagger would need a leash: “He’s a little too smug… telling me if I got the wrong check.”
Frazier is set to begin his second season with the Steelers. Should he continue to display this kind of knowledge for the game, he will only become a bigger and more recognizable star in the NFL.
Zach Frazier’s rookie campaign earned high praise across the league:
-
Named to the PFWA All‑Rookie Team, marking the first time a Steelers center made the squad since Maurkice Pouncey in 2010.
-
Voted the Steelers’ Joe Greene Great Performance Award recipient (team rookie of the year) by the Pittsburgh chapter of the PFWA.
He was also a finalist for the NFL’s Protector Award, a nod to his elite performance on the line, though that honor eventually slipped by unnoticed in wider media chatter.
