Another West Virginia Defensive Player Enters the Transfer Portal

Morgantown, West Virginia – Earlier today, Mike Powers, a walk-on linebacker from Marysville, Ohio, decided to enter the transfer portal.

“After a lot of praying and discussion with my family, I have decided to transfer out of West Virginia and enter the portal.  My recruitment is now open.”

Although Powers was not likely a contributor for the Mountaineers in the coming seasons, his brother, Gabe Powers, is a 2022 recruit and currently rated as one of the best linebackers in the country.

According to an interview with Bill Greene, Gabe Powers said the following of West Virginia prior to his older brother announcing that he would be transferring: “My older brother, Mike Powers, plays there and he’s a redshirt freshman linebacker. I was there last Sunday for a visit and it was great being there. I love the coaches and I got to meet some of my brother’s teammates, and I loved it there.”

However, with Mike Powers officially leaving West Virginia, the chances of landing his younger brother Gabe seems very slim now.
