Morgantown, West Virginia – The West Virginia Mountaineers (18-13, 7-11) took care of business in its season finale, beating the #11 ranked Kansas State Wildcats, 89-81. With the win, the Mountaineers almost certainly put itself in the NCAA Tournament field. Here’s what head coach Bob Huggins had to say following the game:

“I couldn’t care less what Joe Lunardi says. Yeah, I think we’re in the NCAA Tournament with this win. Congratulations to our players. They’re the ones that did it. Like my dad used to say, the players are the ones that got out and have to get it done. I’m like the old dog that sits and barks.

Emmitt (Matthews) and I have been close for a long time now. I told him after the game, ‘Damn, I’m glad you came back here.’

I think our guys did a great job of running sets that got us open shots. We did a good job of moving them (Kansas State). We got their bigs away from the goal. Erik (Stevenson) and Emmitt got some drives because we got their big guys away from the basket.

We’re not done yet. We’re looking forward to going to Kansas City and winning some games there, then seeing where we play in the NCAA Tournament.

The Mountaineers will be in action again next week in Kansas City in the Big 12 Conference Championship. The tournament will be held from March 8-11.
