MORGANTOWN, West Virginia — Former West Virginia basketball head coach BOB HUGGINS may no longer be in the spotlight as the face of the Mountaineers hoops program, but he is still doing a lot of good in the Morgantown community.
According to a press release from Mon Health System, Huggins made a large donation to Mon Health.
“We are honored that Coach Huggins, his family, and Norma Mae Huggins Cancer Endowment Fund have continued to hold their annual Fish Fry presented by Little General Stores to improve cancer care and provide much needed financial support for cancer care across West Virginia through Vandalia Health programs, providers, and sites of care,” said David Goldberg, President and CEO of Mon Health System and Davis Health System – Vandalia Health North, and Executive Vice President of Vandalia Health. “These funds are from thousands of donors that came from far and wide to attend one of the most popular community events in our state to raise awareness and funds to support cancer care delivery, access, and outcomes. Cancer impacts so many, even my own family, so to partner with Coach Huggins, his family, and his friends to improve outcomes, access, and quality of care is so very important. We cannot do it alone and this community support is the difference. We are thankful for this relationship, friendship of the family and donors, and this very generous gift.”
Huggins presented a check of $380,000 in support of cancer care services to Mon Health on Thursday, August 22.

According to the Mon Health website, “In February 2024, Huggins announced that the funds of the Norma Mae Huggins Cancer Endowment Fund, established by Huggins and his family in his mother’s name to support cancer care and research across West Virginia, would be directed to Vandalia Health. Vandalia Health, comprised of CAMC Health System, Davis Health System and Mon Health System hospitals, providers, and clinics, provides cancer care services spanning the entire state of West Virginia and treats more than 50,000 cancer patients annually.”
