Morgantown, West Virginia – The West Virginia Mountaineers got a huge win for their NCAA Tournament resume and moved to 15-9 overall and 4-7 in the Big 12 Conference by beating the #11 ranked Iowa State Cyclones, 76-71.

Here’s what Bob Huggins had to say following the victory:

“I was a little nervous when we lost the 15 point lead. Since we had our Come to Jesus meeting, our guys have started to take that heart. They’ve competed harder. Our bench has been really good. They played extremely well. It was great to have Tre (Mitchell) back in. He has been out of sorts for a while, but he played really well tonight.

We beat arguably the best team in the league tonight. They are good. They are extremely well-coached. They don’t have a lot of flaws. We played hard. I think our guards did a really good job. James (Okonkwo) played really well and what he does around the rim is special.

We had chances to win three or more games this season if we made free throws or took care of the ball better. We didn’t man up and do what we needed to do, but we’re manning up now. We’ll be a better team this time than we were when we played them last time.”

The Mountaineers are back in action this Saturday against the Texas Longhorns in Austin, Texas at noon. The game will be televised live on ESPN.
