It is not quite bowl season, but it is bowl projection season. Now that we are roughly halfway through the 2020 campaign, it is time fans begin to pay close attention to where the Mountaineers may end up playing this postseason.

College Football News recently released their bowl projections after week eight, and they have the Mountaineers going up against a very, VERY familiar face. In the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl, CFN has West Virginia taking on the Houston Cougars. Yes, Dana Holgorsen’s Houston Cougars.

Holgorsen needs no introduction to Mountaineer fans as he was the program’s head coach from 2011 to 2018. Bowl games haven’t been exciting around West Virginia for quite some time (just ask Will Grier), and this matchup would certainly bring a whole new level of energy for Mountaineer fans.

The SERVPRO First Responder Bowl was formerly known as the Zaxby’s Heart of Dallas Bowl, according to the game’s site. West Virginia most recently played in the Heart of Dallas Bowl in 2017, when they lost to the Utah Utes, 30-14. Quarterback Chris Chugunov started at quarterback for the Mountaineers that game, as Will Grier was out for the game with a broken finger/hand.
