According to Jed Drenning, WVU’s sideline reporter, the nation now has a leader in total defense. That leader is the Mountaineer defense.
Now it’s official … As per the tweet/s I posted last night, here’s the new Top 10 in Total Defense … pic.twitter.com/0MU9KhLdpm

After a solid outing against Kansas allowing only 157 total yards, WVU is now allowing the least amount of yards per game in FBS. They were able to surpass Air Force, and now have a 240.3 to 241 edge over the Falcons.
WVU is No. 3 nationally against the run and No. 9 against the pass, making the Mountaineers one of just two teams to currently rank in the Top 10 in both categories. The only other team to do so right now is Air Force (No. 8, No. 4), which has played just one game. pic.twitter.com/8Ae6VcJNbd

Drenning would also report that WVU is now number three and number nine in the nation against the run and pass respectively.
The Mountaineer defense will encounter their toughest challenge of the season, however, when they travel to take on Texas Tech at 5:30 this Saturday. If they can contain the Red Raiders, it is time we start seeing West Virginia as legitimate Big 12 title contenders.
