MORGANTOWN, West Virginia — Rich Rodriguez and the West Virginia Mountaineers have struck again on the recruiting trail, flipping former North Carolina commit Aidan Woods from the Tar Heels.
Woods, a 6’6”, 255-pound tight end/offensive lineman from Abingdon, Virginia, announced his decision to commit to West Virginia earlier today. The talented junior becomes another major addition to WVU’s fast-rising 2026 recruiting class.

In addition to North Carolina, Woods held offers from Wake Forest, Syracuse, Liberty, and several other programs across the ACC and Group of Five. His size, versatility, and athleticism make him a potential impact player at multiple positions — whether lining up as a blocking tight end or transitioning to offensive tackle at the collegiate level.
“I just felt like West Virginia was the right fit for me,” Woods said in a post on social media. “The energy from Coach Rod and the staff is different. They believe in me and what I can bring to their offense.”
With Woods now on board, West Virginia continues to build serious momentum on the recruiting trail under Rich Rodriguez, landing yet another blue-chip level prospect who fits the Mountaineers’ new physical, high-tempo offensive system.
This flip marks a significant win for Rodriguez and his staff — and another sign that West Virginia football’s resurgence under Rich Rod is for real.
