Could WVU Be Making a Return Trip to Arizona For Bowl Season?

All the way back at the beginning of 2016, WVU made the trip to Arizona to play in the Motel 6 Cactus Bowl. That night, they were able to defeat the Arizona State Sun Devils, 43-42, after a game-winning touchdown reception by David Sills.

Fast forward four years later, the bowl has now been renamed to the Guaranteed Rate Bowl, and now pins up a Big 12 opponent against a Big Ten foe. Brett McMurphy, a College Football Insider for Stadium, recently released his bowl projections for the 2020 season. As for where he had the Mountaineers, Arizona would be their holiday destination once again.

McMurphy has the Mountaineers taking on the Michigan Wolverines in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl. The Jim Harbaugh-led squad has underperformed this season, losing their most recent contest to the overmatched Michigan State Spartans, 27-24. Many are beginning to speculate if Harbaugh is on the hot seat.

The Mountaineers and Wolverines have met once before in 1904. Michigan cruised to a 130-0 victory over West Virginia  in Ann Arbor.

The Guaranteed Rate Bowl is set for December 26th.
