Da’Sean Butler Hired By Boston Celtics

Morgantown, WV – According to Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe, former WVU star Da’Sean Butler has been hired by the Boston Celtics in a video and player development role.

Butler follows his former WVU teammate Joe Mazzulla who just won his first NBA championship as a head coach.

“Mazzulla joined the Celtics as an assistant coach in 2019 and was named interim head coach prior to the 2022-2023 before being named head coach in February 2023. In his second season, Mazzulla led the Celtics to a league-best 64 wins and an NBA Championship. He currently holds the highest winning percentage of any coach in NBA history with over 150 games coached and is also the youngest head coach to win the NBA Finals since Bill Russell did so in 1969.

Butler and Mazzulla played together for the West Virginia Mountaineers from 2006-2010, leading WVU to a Final Four during Butler’s senior season.

Butler spent the 2023-24 season as an assistant coach for the Mountaineers under Interim Head Coach Josh Eilert. Butler, 36, also served as an assistant coach at Wheeling and for the College Park Skyhawks in the NBA G League.
