Erik Martin NOT Hired by Cincinnati

Morgantown, West Virginia – According to multiple sources, West Virginia assistant coach Erik Martin has been passed on as the new head coach at Cincinnati.

Despite two interviews and a groundswell of support from alumni for Martin, Cincinnati instead has chosen UNCG head coach Wes Miller.

Martin, who was named to The Athletic’s list of 30 Coaches to Watch in 2018, just completed his 15th season as an assistant under Bob Huggins at West Virginia University.  Martin was a standout power forward for Huggins at Cincinnati and graduated there in 1993.

Several former Cincinnati players spoke out in favor of the university hiring Martin and Bob Huggins made several made calls advocating for Martin to get the job.

While this is a tremendously disappointing development for Coach Martin, he will certainly earn a head coaching position in the very near future.
