Morgantown, West Virginia – In an ESPN article released yesterday by Senior Writer Adam Rittenberg, coaching situations to watch closely were discussed and West Virginia’s head coach Neal Brown was mentioned.
Brown, who is 19-21 overall and 11-17 in the Big 12 Conference in his 4th season with the team, appears to be very much on the hot seat entering the Mountaineers game against the Baylor Bears tomorrow night.
In the article, Rittenberg says the following about Brown: “There will be more eyes on WVU and Brown as defending Big 12 champion Baylor visits on Thursday night. WVU plays its third Thursday night game after pushing Pitt in the opener and then dominating Virginia Tech on the road.
But Brown could really use a strong showing, ideally an upset win, in front of the home crowd to turn down some of the heat. WVU still must face the Big 12’s three highest-ranked teams — No. 8 Oklahoma State (road), No. 13 TCU (home) and No. 17 Kansas State (home) — and needs to show progress, especially on defense. Despite a coach-friendly contract, this could be a situation to watch through November.”
Essentially, Rittenberg is alluding to the fact that despite Brown’s massive contract buyout, this game against Baylor is hugely important for his career and for his future at West Virginia University.
