Expect HUGE News From West Virginia Basketball Very Soon

Morgantown, West Virginia – The West Virginia Mountaineers are closing in on a huge signing that could completely change the roster for the upcoming 2022-2023 season.

Tre Mitchell, a 6’9 forward/center who is originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, recently entered the transfer portal after playing one season with the Texas Longhorns. Prior to playing for Texas, Mitchell was dominant at UMASS, where he averaged 18.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game.

In addition to being an outstanding interior player, Mitchell is also a capable outside player, shooting 37.5% from three point range.

Mitchell, a former four star player, visited Morgantown recently and is very close to making his decision where he will finish his collegiate career. Since leaving Texas, Mitchell has been heavily pursued by Iowa, DePaul, Washington State, Utah State and Vanderbilt, but some simple internet investigation has revealed that West Virginia is the likely choice and it could happen sooner rather than later.

Mitchell has recently followed several West Virginia University athletes – including Kedrian Johnson, Dimon Carrigan, Jamel King, Gabe Osabuohien, Erik Stevenson, as well as WVU women’s athletes Sarah Bates and Kristen McBride –  on his personal Instagram account. In fact, the last 10-15 individuals who he has followed have some sort of affiliation with West Virginia University, including Andrew Grieve, West Virginia’s Social Media Specialist.

West Virginia was one of the very first schools to reach out to Mitchell, he is from Pittsburgh and his recent social media activity points to him committing to play for the Mountaineers very, very soon.

If he does commit, this would be a monster get for Bob Huggins and his coaching staff, who have failed to land an interior player with Power 5 Conference experience and talent so far this offseason. The Mountaineers have gained commitments from Jimmy Bell, Jr., Mohamed Wague and Pat Suemnick, but Tre Mitchell will instantly be the most talented, experienced big man on the team if/when he signs.

Stay tuned!
