MORGANTOWN, West Virginia — Former West Virginia point guard Jordan McCabe has bounced around the coaching ranks since graduating from college. McCabe, a native of Kaukauna, WI, left West Virginia University and transferred to UNLV to finish his collegiate playing career. After graduating, McCabe returned home as an assistant coach at West Virginia University under interim head coach Josh Eilert.
After one season back in Morgantown, McCabe took an assistant coaching job at The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. This past season, Green Bay finished 4-28 under first year head coach Doug Gottlieb.
Now, McCabe, who was married to his long-time girlfriend Olivia on May 31, has accepted a position as an assistant coach under Bryce Drew at Grand Canyon University, a successful Mountain West program that finished 26-8 last season. McCabe had the following to say to the Green Bay Press-Gazette about the new position:
“I was talking to one of our (UWGB) players yesterday, and I told him there are so many decisions that are made every spring in college athletics now because of the landscape,” said McCabe. “The ironic part is that it has always been this way for coaches, but it recently has become this way for players. A lot of times players get the flak, and coaches don’t receive as much of it. I was talking to the player and told him, on paper, this is a Mountain West job with a very successful coach at multiple levels who has been to the tournament multiple times and it’s a program that is rolling. On paper, it looks very obvious in a lot of ways. But just like players when they make a move in the portal, it’s really hard even if it makes sense on paper to justify it based on the relationships you have made.”
Green Bay men’s basketball assistant coach Jordan McCabe is leaving the Phoenix & will join Grand Canyon’s coaching staff as assistant, per source.
McCabe, a Kaukauna, WI legend, will join Bryce Drew — who’s led the Antelopes to the NCAA Tournament in 4 out of the last 5 years.

McCabe was a former four star recruit and committed to play for Bob Huggins and the Mountaineers back in 2018. McCabe saw early success as a freshman, averaging 5.8 points and 2.5 assists in his first season in Morgantown, but lost playing time to Miles McBride during his sophomore and junior seasons. McCabe then played two seasons at UNLV and finished his career averaging 4.7 points and 2.5 assists per game while shooting 33% from the field and 31% from three point range.
