MORGANTOWN, West Virginia — West Virginia basketball has landed a potential program-changer! Aliou Dioum, a four-star, 6’11 center out of Bella Vista Prep in Arizona, has committed to the Mountaineers, giving Ross Hodge and his staff a massive recruiting victory and a foundation to build the future around.

At 6’11, Dioum brings the kind of size and athleticism WVU has desperately lacked in recent years. Known for his motor, his ability to run the floor, and a developing offensive skillset, Dioum projects as the kind of player who can anchor the paint on both ends. In a conference loaded with size and physicality, adding Dioum gives WVU the rim protector and inside scoring threat that has been sorely missing.
West Virginia beat out programs like Illinois, Mississippi State, Wake Forest and Syracuse for his services. In today’s recruiting landscape, where NIL and program stability often decide battles, WVU’s ability to close the deal on a high-profile big man is a signal that Hodge and his staff can compete on the national stage.
West Virginia’s roster has too often been undersized and overmatched in the post. Landing Dioum immediately upgrades the Mountaineers’ interior presence. Even if he isn’t a day-one star, he gives WVU size, depth, and long-term upside at a position where they’ve been lacking. Pairing him with Hodge’s up-tempo, aggressive style could make him a force in the Big 12 as he develops.

With Dioum in the fold, the pressure eases on WVU’s current frontcourt and allows the coaching staff to use rotations more effectively. Guards and wings will benefit from having a true rim protector behind them, and on offense, Dioum’s ability to finish inside creates spacing and opens up the floor. He may not have to carry the scoring load right away, but his presence alone will change how opponents defend West Virginia.
If there was any doubt about whether Ross Hodge could recruit at the highest level, this commitment should put it to rest. Landing a 6’11 four-star big like Aliou Dioum is a massive victory for West Virginia basketball, both on the court and on the recruiting trail.
Mountaineer Nation has been waiting for a sign of momentum. With Dioum now committed, WVU fans have every reason to believe that sign has arrived.
