MORGANTOWN, West Virginia — West Virginia just landed another big one, and this one feels like it matters.

Four star guard Keonte Greybear has officially committed to the Mountaineers, choosing WVU over Kansas, Oklahoma State, Texas A and M, and Texas Tech. That is not a list you casually win against. That is a straight up recruiting battle, and Ross Hodge just walked out of it with the guy he wanted.

Greybear is a 6 foot 2 combo guard out of Lewisville, Texas, ranked inside the Top 200 nationally and considered one of the better guards in the 2026 class. He can play on or off the ball, he is comfortable creating his own shot, and more importantly, he plays with a toughness that fits exactly what this new WVU staff is trying to build.

And here is the part that should have WVU fans paying attention…this was not a quick in and out visit. Greybear spent real time in Morgantown, got around the program, and by all accounts, fell in love with it. That matters. That tells you this staff is selling something real right now.

Now step back and look at the bigger picture, because this is where things start to get interesting.

2026 Recruiting Class is Taking Shape

Greybear joins what is quickly becoming a loaded 2026 class for the Mountaineers:

Miles Sadler – five star point guard and one of the crown jewels of the class
Aliou Dioum – four star forward with length and upside
Keonte Greybear – the newest addition and a guard who can do a little bit of everything

That is balance. That is size. That is skill. And it is not done yet.

There is also real buzz around top 2027 prospect Paul Osaruyi, who has strong ties to assistant coach Yusuf Ali and could potentially reclassify. If that happens, WVU is suddenly talking about one of the most intriguing young cores in the country..

The Bottom Line

This is what a real roster build looks like.

You are stacking young talent with legit upside while also bringing in portal players who can contribute immediately. You are winning recruiting battles against major programs. And you are doing it with a clear identity.

For a fan base that spent the last few years wondering what direction things were headed, this is starting to feel different.

Keonte Greybear is not just another commit. He is another signal that WVU is building something that players across the country are starting to believe in.

And if this momentum keeps up, it is not going to be long before the rest of the Big 12 is forced to take notice.
