WVU Quarterback Garrett Greene is the fan favorite to be starting quarterback come September 2nd.
Morgantown, WV – With the season quickly approaching, fans all across the Mountain State are beginning to show their excitement for WVU Football on social media. After several months of negativity, the general consensus surrounding the team is that they are ready to prove people wrong. Supporters of the Old Gold & Blue have also followed suit to this opinion.
One aspect of the team that fans are sharing excitement about is the quarterback position. Garrett Greene and Nicco Marchiol are set to take their competition into fall camp in a true “let the best man win” scenario.
Yesterday, I ran a poll on Twitter to gauge the opinion of fans. The question that I asked was “Who ya got winning the QB battle in Fall Camp?” With 724 participants, the results were overwhelmingly in favor of Garrett Greene leading the team when the Mountaineers take the field against Penn State on September 2nd.

The final tally shows that fans are in favor of Greene starting by a ratio of roughly 90-10. Of the 724 that voted, 90% of them see Greene winning the starting job (around 650 votes), while 10% have Nicco Marchiol winning the job (around 72 votes).
When combining Greene’s solid spring game performance, as well as his victory over Oklahoma towards the end of the 2022 season, fans have seen all they need to have faith in Greene moving forward. This is not to say that Marchiol will never reach that level among fans, but it will simply take time and live game reps.
WVU begins their 2023 season at Penn State on September 2nd. Kickoff is set for 7:30 on NBC.
