Morgantown, West Virginia – According to TMZ, former West Virginia Mountaineers quarterback Geno Smith was arrested early Monday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Smith, 31, served as Russell Wilson’s backup for the past three seasons for the Seattle Seahawks.

“Geno is fully cooperative with the investigation,” said Jon Fox, who is representing Smith, in a statement. “I hope that an open mind can be kept by all as the facts are ascertained.”

The Seahawks released the following statement: “We are aware of the situation.”

Smith, who is now a free agent, started three games this year after starter Russell Wilson suffered an injury to his right middle finger.
