Morgantown, West Virginia – In front of a very small crowd on a rainy Saturday afternoon, the Gold Team beat the Blue Team, 56-51 in the annual Gold-Blue Spring Game.

In regards to the quarterback competition, Garrett Greene out-performed Nicco Marchiol in a major way, leading the Mountaineers to several impressive touchdown drives. Marchiol looked shaky and lacked confidence in the pocket. Greene also caught a pass on a trick play from wide receiver Preston Fox for a touchdown.

Greene finished the game 8-11 for 156 yards and 1 touchdown. Marchiol was 6-12 for 58 yards.

Freshman running back Jaheim White was spectacular in his first appearance for the Mountaineers, rushing for 91 yards on 7 carries. CJ Donaldson added 8 carries for 36 yards.

Devin Carter had 3 receptions for 77 yards and new tight end Kole Taylor finished with 3 catches for 36 yards.

Overall, however, there were very few reasons to get excited about the upcoming season. With the 3rd most challenging schedule in the nation, it’s hard to imagine the Mountaineers having a successful season this year.
