To say that today was not Will Grier’s day would be an understatement. After a less than stellar debut against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 16 of the NFL season, Grier’s second consecutive start for the Carolina Panthers went even worse. Before leaving with a foot injury, the former Mountaineer quarterback completed only 1 of his 8 pass attempts, accumulating 4 yards and tossing a pick-six to New Orleans Saints linebacker A.J. Klein. To the surprise of nobody, this resulted in a quarterback rating of 0.0 for Grier.
Grier finished his rookie season in the NFL completing 28 of 52 passes (53.8% completion), while adding 232 passing yards and 4 interceptions, without a single touchdown pass. While the situation that he was placed in was not ideal, the results still bring into question his future with the Panthers. Carolina will be bringing in new leadership for the 2020 season, and it will be their decision whether Grier will have a future in Carolina. Unless Grier can show flashes in practice for the yet to be hired new coaching staff, he may be looking for a new NFL home for the 2020 season.
