Since leaving West Virginia in 2019, Dana Holgorsen has posted a 6-11 record with the Houston Cougars. The program is still rebuilding from the Major Applewhite era, but this has not prevented fans from calling Holgorsen the main issue with the program. Following the Cougars’ 38-10 loss to Cincinnati last Saturday, fans took to Twitter to voice their displeasure with the head man.

Not exactly welcoming comments for the still relatively new head coach from West Virginia…

These fans questioned whether or not Holgorsen is the answer for the program, stated their case for firing him, and even compared him to Adam Gase. For those of you who don’t know who Gase is, he is the current head coach of the 0-9 New York Jets of the NFL. Ouch.

When Holgorsen was recruited away from West Virginia, those who lead the Cougars program stated that they want success – even 8-4 records would get coaches fired. Holgorsen, who was seen as a home run hire for the program, has been on the job for over a season now, and hasn’t even reached eight wins. Not exactly what the University of Houston considers up-to-par.

Should this trend continue for the program under Holgorsen, his bet on leaving West Virginia will ultimately fail miserably. Five games under .500 isn’t necessarily successful, especially not for the highest paid head coach in the Group of 5.

Stay tuned, these fans may get their wish before it is all said and done.
