Ames, Iowa – The West Virginia Mountaineers (17-13, 6-11) pulled off a huge victory at Iowa State, upsetting the Cyclones 72-69. With the win, the Mountaineers got their sixth Big 12 Conference win and likely clinched a bid to the NCAA Tournament. Here’s what Bob Huggins had to say following the win:

“That game was…fun. You can’t say ‘fun’, but it turned out the right way. Joe Toussaint was really, really good. Emmitt (Matthews) he’s cooked, he’s tired, but he made some big block shots at the other end. But I think Joe (Toussaint) really turned the game around for us.

We went small, which I think helped us offensively. Defensively, I think we had some guys that did some really good things for us. Kobe Johnson was terrific defensively. He has the strength to do it. I thought he was really. Keddy (Kedrian Johnson) continues to play hurt. He keeps fighting through it. Seth came in and hit some shots for us. I thought it was a great team win.

We’ve given a lot of games away this year. We gave away the Texas Tech game at home, but to come in here and turn it around is huge.

We’re making free throws. We were 19-23 tonight. That’s a big part of why we’re winning games now.

This Saturday is the last time to see the Mountaineers in West Virginia. If we get a win on that one, we’ll be in good shape.”

The Mountaineers are back in action this Saturday, March 4th at 2:00PM at home in the regular season finale against the #11 ranked Kansas State Wildcats.
