Morgantown, West Virginia – The West Virginia Mountaineers got a huge victory in an absolute must-win game for their NCAA Tournament hopes, beating the Oklahoma State Cowboys, 85-67. Here’s what West Virginia’s head coach Bob Huggins had to say following the victory:
“That’s one we really needed. That gives us 5 conference wins with another one at home and two more on the road, then the conference tournament. We can put ourselves in position down the stretch.
I thought we played really hard tonight. Defensively, this is the best we’ve played all season. I like what we did. I think we were hungry today. We had a real long talk about how do we want to go out? Do you want to go out in the NCAA Tournament, winning games and advancing, or do you want to keep giving games away and feeling miserable?
Oklahoma State is a really talented team. Their athleticism scared me to death, but I thought defensively we played really well.
I thought Tre (Mitchell) was comfortable tonight. He was so much more comfortable in the game than he’s been at times.”
The Mountaineers are back in action this Saturday at the #3 ranked Kansas Jayhawks at 4:00PM. With three games remaining, West Virginia likely needs at least one more win in the regular season and then one win in the Big 12 Conference Tournament.
