Huggins: “We Need To Win”

Morgantown, West Virginia – The West Virginia Mountaineers have dug themselves into quite a hole with a 13-9 overall record and a 2-7 record in the Big 12 Conference, but they still have a real opportunity to make the NCAA Tournament this season.

According to Bob Huggins, it’s simple: “We need to win.”

“If our guys don’t understand the position they’ve put themselves in now, they’ll never understand it,” Huggins said today. “They didn’t come to play last game against TCU and they know that. It was really, really bad. We just didn’t step up and meet the challenge and it was a lost opportunity.”

Huggins continued: “We don’t have a strong leader on this team. We have good guys and we have good people, but we don’t have that hard ass guy that we have had before. We have some guys who talk a lot, but I wouldn’t call any of them strong leaders. We don’t have guys here like we used to have. I used to have guys that would say to other guys on the team, ‘I’ll whoop your ass if you keep this shit up.'”

Despite this, Huggins believes his team will likely play in the NCAA Tournament and could potentially make a run. “I would be surprised if we don’t get into the tournament in March. I think we’ll win some games in the NCAA Tournament. How many? I don’t know, but I believe we’ll advance.”

The Mountaineers are back in action tomorrow, Saturday, February 4th at 8:00PM inside the WVU Coliseum and the game will be televised live on ESPN.
