Is Bob Huggins One of the Winningest Coaches Ever? ESPN Says No

Morgantown, West Virginia – Future Hall of Fame head coach Bob Huggins has been stuck on 914 wins during his legendary career in college basketball for some time.

West Virginia has lost 13 out their last 14 games before starting the season 13-2. At 14-15 and in last place in the Big 12 Conference, the Mountaineers are effectively out of the NCAA Tournament now, unless they can somehow manage to win the Big 12 Conference Championship.

During the Duke versus Syracuse game yesterday, ESPN showed a graphic of the head coaches with the most career wins. Duke’s head coach, Mike Krzyzewski, has the most wins ever with 1,194 career wins. Syracuse’s coach, Jim Boeheim, is 2nd with 1,098 wins and typically Jim Calhoun, UCONN’s former head coach, is listed at #3 with 918 wins and Bob Huggins at 4th with 914.

However, ESPN’s list had Roy Williams at 3rd with 903 wins and Bob Knight in 4th with 899 wins.

This list shows only NCAA wins and Huggins has 843 career wins in the NCAA. His 71 other wins came during his 3 seasons at Walsh University in the NAIA.

Whether Huggins has 914 career wins or 843 wins, he is among the winningest coaches in the history of college basketball and will soon be inducted into the Hall of Fame where he belongs.
