Jay Kuntz: “I Can’t Wait to Prove Them All Wrong!”

Despite adding several key players and accumulating one of the top transfer classes in the nation this offseason, West Virginia is not getting the respect it deserves from the national media.

MORGANTOWN, West Virginia — The West Virginia Mountaineers have one of the very best transfer classes this year, adding Jose Perez, Omar Silverio, Kerr Kriisa, Jesse Edwards and RaeQuan Battle. However, despite this, they are simply not getting much respect from the national media.

According to Gary Parrish of College Basketball Report, the Mountaineers are not even one of the Top 25 teams in college basketball entering the 2023-2024 season. Parrish has Kansas ranked as his top team entering the seaon, with Big 12 teams Houston (#7), Texas (#19) and Baylor (#20), but West Virginia was nowhere to be found in his rankings.

Jay Kuntz, West Virginia’s Director of Player Personnel/Recruiting for the Mountaineers, posted the rankings on his personal social media account with the following as a reply: “Lol can’t wait”, implying that he can’t wait to start the season and prove all of the “experts” wrong.

Kuntz, who has been instrumental in the team’s success in the transfer portal, enters his 15th season with the Mountaineers and this one could be really special!
