Morgantown, WV – Former WVU assistant Jeff Koonz is officially off the coaching market. After not being retained on Rich Rodriguez’s staff with the Mountaineers, Koonz is now set to take his coaching expertise to the NFL.
According to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports, Koonz has been hired by the Green Bay Packers as a member of the defensive staff.

Koonz served primarily as WVU’s special teams coordinator and outside linebackers coach under Neal Brown. He was promoted to defensive coordinator following the firing of Jordan Lesley late last October.
The Green Bay Packers, who finished the 2024 season with an 11-6 record and a playoff appearance, are expected to be contenders in the NFC in 2025. Exactly what role Koonz will play for the Packers has yet to be revealed.
