Morgantown, West Virginia – Legendary West Virginia native Jerry West turns 83 years old today!
West totaled 2,309 points and 1,240 rebounds, averaging 24.8 points per game and 13.3 rebounds during his career at WVU. West holds 12 WVU all-time records and was the co-captain of the US Men’s Basketball Team that won the gold medal at the 1960 Summer Olympics.
As a professional, West was an NBA champion, an NBA Finals MVP, a 14-time NBA All Star and is widely considered one of the greatest players in NBA history.
West’s #44 was retired by both West Virginia University and the Los Angeles Lakers.
