Morgantown, West Virginia – Why do West Virginia fans love and adore Jevon Carter?
Is it the fact that he was a two-time Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and a 4-time Big 12 All-Defensive Team member? No.
Is it because he was a consensus 2nd team All-American during his senior season in Morgantown, averaging 17.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, 6.6 assists and a nation-best 3.0 steals per game? No.
Is it because he was the first major conference player to reach 1,500 points, 500 rebounds, 500 assists and 300 steals in a career? No.
West Virginia fans love Jevon Carter because he left every ounce of blood, sweat, tears and effort on the floor every single game in a West Virginia uniform. His relentless, gritty play won over the hearts of Mountaineer fans across the state, and it’s starting to win over the fans of the Phoenix Suns now too.
Before the Orlando Bubble, Jevon Carter played in 50 of the Suns 65 games, averaging 15.1 minutes-per-game and 4.6 points-per-game. In 6 games in the Bubble, Carter has seen those totals increase, posting 21.8 minutes and 7.2 points per game. Although his stats are improving, fans are taking notice of his tenacious defense and constant hustle. Several “Jevon Carter Appreciation” threads and “Jevon Carter Fan Clubs” have popped up all over social media, paying homage to his outstanding efforts on the court.

Now, Carter is being considered for The Majerle Hustle Award, named after former Phoenix Suns’ player Dan Majerle. This award is given to the Phoenix Suns player who “most personified the same hustle, grit and determination that Suns Ring of Honor member Dan Majerle displayed as a player.”
