Jonathan Powell Visiting West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, West Virginia — Earlier this evening, high school sensation Jonathan Powell confirmed to The Voice of Morgantown that he is visiting West Virginia University tomorrow. Powell told VOM, “Me and my family are coming down tomorrow morning. We shall see what the future holds.”

Powell, a 6’6 guard from Dayton, Ohio, averaged 19.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per game and was named he Division I Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association Player of the Year.

Powell was previously committed to Xavier University and re-opened his recruitment, saying, “After a talk with my family, I have decided to reopen my recruitment and decommit from Xavier University,” Powell wrote on Instagram. “This wasn’t easy at all and took a lot out of me and my family making this decision. I want to thank the Xavier coaches for welcoming me and showing effortless love since I’ve committed. There will always be love for Xavier and the city of Cincinnati.”

Powell has an impressive list of offers including Alabama, Cincinnati, Dayton, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Texas A&M and Virginia Tech, among many others.

Powell ranks 126th in the class of 2024, according to On3.com. He’s No. 144, according to Rivals.com and a composite 0.9405 and a 4 star recruit according to 247 Sports. 

West Virginia already has one of the nation’s top transfer classes with Tucker DeVries, Sencire Harris, Amani Hansberry, Toby Okani, Eduardo Andre and Javon Small.
