Local Two-Sport Star Athlete Could Soon Come Home to West Virginia

Morgantown, West Virginia – Just a quick 35 minute drive north of Morgantown, Uniontown, Pennsylvania is the home of Rodney Gallagher, a two-sport four star athlete in both basketball and football.

Gallagher, 6’0 180 pounds, is currently Pennsylvania’s #1 ranked prospect in football and the state’s #4 ranked recruit in basketball in the 2023 class, and although he has kept his recruitment process relatively secret, the West Virginia Mountaineers are absolutely a very real possibility for him.

In addition to West Virginia, Gallagher has been heavily recruited by Penn State, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, NC State, Pittsburgh, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, among several others.  However, West Virginia is one of only a few schools to offer him a scholarship in both football and basketball, and he intends to play both sports in college.

Gallagher visited Morgantown over the summer and said that he really liked the campus, facilities and enjoyed meeting with the coaching staffs of both the football and basketball teams.

As a point guard for the basketball team at Laurel Highlands High School, Gallagher averaged 19.4 points, 5.4 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game as a sophomore last season.  He was also a first-team all-state basketball player as a freshman.

In football, Gallagher plays wide receiver offensively and safety or linebacker on the defensive side of the ball.  Last season, he had 61 receptions for 883 yards and 38 tackles as a defensive player.

It appears that Gallagher’s decision is coming soon and will come down to Pitt, Penn State or West Virginia.  Recently, he posted the following message that leads us to believe that he will be making his commitment on his birthday, December 9th: “Big news to be announced on my birthday next month, December 9th.”

Stayed tuned!  West Virginia could be getting an outstanding player in two sports next week.  Rodney Gallagher would be a major get for both Bob Huggins and Neal Brown!
