Loyola Chicago STUNS Illinois

Indianapolis, Indiana – Moments ago, the Loyola Chicago Ramblers, the 8 seed in the Midwest Region, stunned the top-seeded Illinois Fighting Illini, 71-58 , in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Ramblers were led by an outstanding performance by senior center Cameron Krutwig, who finished the game with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Illinois, the Big Ten Champions, finished the season 24-6 and the #2 ranked team in the nation, but got down early and couldn’t hold off Loyola’s unusual, offensive attack, which features multiple screens.

This is tremendous news for the West Virginia Mountaineers, of course.  If the Mountaineers can get past Syracuse today, then the winner of the Houston versus Rutgers game in the Sweet 16, West Virginia could meet Loyola Chicago in the Elite 8.

Sister Jean, the 101 year old iconic NCAA Tournament figure, is the chaplain for Loyola’s basketball team and picked the Mountaineers to defeat her school in the Elite 8.
