Former Ohio State guard Luther Muhammad, who entered the transfer portal last week, recently cut his final eight teams to Seton Hall, Auburn, Arizona State, Alabama, Georgia, New Mexico, UCLA and West Virginia.

Muhammad, who averaged 7.0 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists during his sophomore season, was a four star recruit out of high school.

Today, Muhammad gave those of us following his transfer closely a major clue by adding several West Virginia basketball players – including Jalen Bridges, Emmitt Matthews, Jr., among many others – on Instagram and Twitter.

In addition to him following Mountaineers on his social media accounts, Muhammad is rumored to be close friends with West Virginia point guard Jordan McCabe, which could certainly sway his decision.

Looking at West Virginia’s roster next season, Muhammad is the absolutely perfect fit for the Mountaineers.  West Virginia is in need of more depth at the guard position and a defensive stopper is precisely what they need at that position.

Taz Sherman and Sean McNeil are offensive scorers and very capable defenders, but they are not the type of lockdown defenders that you can put on the opposing team’s best player and expect them to shut down him down.  Muhammad is the exact player that West Virginia needs to complete their roster and put themselves into position to compete for a national championship in the coming seasons.

Muhammad will have to sit out next year and will have two seasons of eligibility of remaining.
