Marshall Wins Soccer National Championship

Morgantown, West Virginia – The Marshall Thundering Herd are national champions!

Marshall defeated the #3 ranked Indiana Hoosiers to win the NCAA men’s soccer national championship with a 1-0 win in overtime.

During this incredible Cinderella run, the Herd upset the #1 seed in tournament (Clemson), the defending champion (Georgetown) and host school (North Carolina) before conquering the team with the most championships (Indiana, 8) in NCAA history.

Senior Jamil Roberts hit his third game-winner of the NCAA Tournament scoring the golden goal in the 98th minute.

Head coach Chris Grassie took a Marshall program that missed the 2016 Conference USA Tournament to a National Champion in only four seasons.

“Immensely, immensely proud to be a part of this team,” coach Grassie said. “We all really kind of came together this season and we just got better and better and better. We had some bumps in the road. There are definitely a couple of teams tonight that will be happy they beat a national champion. But, we continued to learn from each lesson and each set back.”

Congratulations to little brother on their big win and their first national championship!
