College Park, Maryland – West Virginia’s regional rivalry game against the Maryland Terrapins today has created major buzz and excitement, and although the game will not quite be a sellout at Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium, the student section will be absolutely packed.
According to Maryland athletics, over 11,000 student tickets were distributed for the game as of September 1st. The student section, however, only has a capacity of 10,000. Maryland maintains temporary bleachers at Maryland Stadium for additional capacity above the normal student section and these bleachers will be in use for today’s game.
There have only been two previous games at Maryland Stadium that have been over capacity since 2002 when they first introduced their lottery system. The other two games that were over capacity were against the 4th-ranked Mountaineers in 2007 and against #12 ranked Penn State in 2019.
Over 11,000 student tickets have been distributed for Saturday’s Maryland football game against West Virginia, per Maryland athletics.
