Mountaineers climb in latest tournament projections

West Virginia continues to pile up victories and climb the NCAA Tournament forecasting ladder.

The Mountaineers, 10-1 after their 75-64 win at Youngstown State on Saturday, are projected as a No. 4 seed in the Midwest Region in the latest ESPN Bracketology. Joe Lunardi has West Virginia facing 13 seed Belmont in the Cleveland pod for the opening round in his forecast this week Lunardi has Arizona as the five seed in the Cleveland pod for the Midwest Region. WVU moves up two spots from a six seed in Lunardi’s forecast last week.

CBS Jerry Palm is less bullish on the Mountaineers. He was West Virginia as the six seed, also in the Midwest Region and also playing its first- and second-round games in Cleveland. Palm has Dayton as the No. 3 seed in the Cleveland pod with WVU

Roundtable Ratings is highest on the Mountaineers. That projection has WVU as a No. 2 seed, matched up against 15th-seeded New Mexico State to open the tourney

The 2020 Bracket Matrix, a conglomeration of various forecasts, has WVU as a five seed. Its forecast has WVU facing East Tennessee State ETSU beat LSU last week.
