Mountaineers Destroy Longhorns 97-59

Morgantown,WV  The #14 ranked West Virginia Mountaineers, coming off a disappointing loss at Kansas State, absolutely pounded the Texas Longhorns 97-59 to move to 15-3 overall and 4-2 in the Big 12 Conference on the season.

The Mountaineers had a balanced attack with several players contributing, including Derek Culver with 13 points and 8 rebounds, Jermaine Haley with 12 points and 7 rebounds, Oscar Tshiebwe with 13 points and 10 rebounds, Emmitt Matthews, Jr. with 8 points and 4 rebounds and Jordan McCabe, who added 10 points on 4-7 from the field and 2-3 from the 3 point line.  Gabe Osabuohien and Miles McBride had 9 points each off the bench.  In addition, Freshman Spencer Macke got his first field goal by nailing a 3 pointer late in the 2nd half.

Texas, now 12-6 and 2-4 in the Big 12, were paced by junior guard Jase Febres, who finished with 12 points, but only shot 2-6 from the field.  The Mountaineers outrebounded the Longhorns 53-25.

West Virginia will next play the Missouri Tigers in the Big 12/SEC Challenge on Saturday, January 25th at noon.
