Mountaineers Get Mauled by the Bears

Waco, Texas – The West Virginia Mountaineers dropped to 2-4 this season with a disappointing loss on the road to the Baylor Bears (5-1).

The West Virginia defense looked slow and unprepared, giving up 21 points in the first quarter, and the Mountaineers could never recover, losing 45-20.

Redshirt senior Jarret Doege was 20/31 for 237 yards, 1 touchdown (off a tipped pass) and 1 interception.  Leddie Brown had another ho-hum performance, finishing the game with 44 yards on 12 carries. Garrett Greene added 9 carries, 65 yards and 1 touchdown on the ground.

West Virginia’s wide receivers were again a bright spot for the team led by Winston Wright with 6 receptions for 86 yards, Sam James with 5 receptions for 70 yards, Bryce Ford-Wheaton with 4 catches for 45 yards and Isaiah Esdale with 5 catches for 49 yards.

The Mountaineers will have a much-needed bye week next weekend before returning to action on the road at TCU on October 23rd.
