Morgantown, West Virginia – The 8th-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers, 7-1 and 1-0 in the Big 12 Conference, once again played down to their opponent and barely escaped with a narrow 70-65 victory over Iowa State (1-4, 0-2).
The Mountaineers were led by Derek Culver (18 points, 10 rebounds) and Miles McBride (18 points, 5 rebounds). Oscar Tshiebwe added 12 points and 5 rebounds.

Junior guard Rasir Bolton led the upset-minded Iowa State Cyclones with 23 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists.
The Mountaineers will be back in action on Tuesday, December 22nd for a huge game in Lawrence Kansas to play the 5th ranked Kansas Jayhawks.
