The West Virginia Mountaineers, 18-5 overall and 6-4 in Big 12 Conference play, suffered another tough road loss today by losing to the Oklahoma Sooners, now 15-8 and 5-5 in the Big 12, by a score of 69-59.
The Mountaineers played with the same lack of heart and lack of killer instinct that they’ve played with on the road all season long. While Oklahoma played with desperation and like they had to win the game, the Mountaineers were once again sloppy and ineffective offensively.
West Virginia’s interior players continued to struggle throughout the game. Derek Culver finished the game with 4 points on 2-10 from the field and Oscar Tshiebwe was 5-16 for 12 points in the game. Senior Jermaine Haley was one of the lone bright spots for the Mountaineers, finishing with 15 points (6-12 FG), 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Miles McBride added 9 points on 4-9 from the field.
Oklahoma was led by Kristian Doolittle, who had 27 points and 12 rebounds, and Brady Manek, who added 9 points and 7 rebounds.
The season won’t get any easier in the coming days, as the Mountaineers return home to play the 3rd ranked Kansas Jayhawks on Wednesday night and then at the #1 ranked Baylor Bears next Saturday. Both games will be televised on ESPN+.
