National Championship or Bust

Morgantown, West Virginia – West Virginia Mountaineers Basketball Assistant Coach Erik Martin has been around basketball for a very long time and he believes this year’s West Virginia team is perhaps one of the best he’s ever been a part of.

The Mountaineers start workouts tomorrow and Martin described tonight like “feeling like a kid on Christmas Eve.”  West Virginia is loaded with returning talent – Oscar Tshiebwe, Derek Culver, Miles McBride, Emmitt Matthews, Jr., Taz Sherman, Sean McNeil, Gabe Osabuohien, Jordan McCabe and Spencer Macke – as well as newcomers Isaiah Cottrell, Jalen Bridges and Taj Thweatt.  This is one of the deepest, most talented teams in the Big 12 conference and perhaps the entire country.

Martin couldn’t contain his excitement for the upcoming season on social media: “It’s been 4 months since I was with my family/team, and this could be the most talented team we’ve had at WVU in my 13 years here.”

Martin even made a very bold prediction for the Mountaineers this season: “National Championship or Bust!  Let’s get it!”

West Virginia has the talent, depth and coaching to beat anyone in the country this season and will be an extremely tough team to beat during the NCAA Tournament. While Bob Huggins and Erik Martin have had a lot of success together in the past at Cincinnati, Kansas State and West Virginia, this team has the potential to be better than all of them.
