Neal Brown says West Virginia Should Be a Nationally Ranked Team

MORGANTOWN, West Virginia — The West Virginia Mountaineers moved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the Big 12 Conference with a huge 24-21 upset victory over the TCU Horned Frogs. Here’s what West Virginia’s head coach Neal Brown had to say after the win:

“This is probably as proud of a football team that I’ve ever been. This was a fight and we’re a football team that is built to fight. We’ve had our backs against the wall and we’ve responded. I don’t want to hear anyone on social media saying, ‘We had them 4-1 at this point.’ No, no one believed in us.”

“We have a lot of mental toughness. Offensively, we found a way. No turnovers and we ran for over 200 yards running. Garrett (Greene) is our leader and made some good plays. I thought we should have had more than 24 points, but we did enough to win. Defensively, I can’t say enough, especially in the second half. We dropped 4 interceptions, but our defensive line is really talented and play great. I can’t say enough about our special teams either.

We should be a nationally ranked teams in both polls. We’ve played a really tough schedule. A lot of teams have played tough schedules, but I really think we deserve it. I’m mentally and physically exhausted. My thoughts are with Aubrey (Burks) and Trey (Lathan). As excited as I am, I really feel for those guys.”
