Neal Brown Speaks (And He Had a Lot To Say!)

Morgantown, West Virginia – Neal Brown spoke to the media for the first time in months today and he had a lot to say! Brown gave several updates on the team and gave his insight on how the Mountaineers are shaping up during the offseason.

On how the team is progressing

“This is the hungriest and most competitive team we’ve had since I’ve been here. This is not an easy of fun time of the year, but our guys have embraced the work and the hard stuff. I’m really excited about the guys we have in the building right now.”

On the changes he’s made during the offseason

The Minnesota loss in the bowl game was a “crisis” situation and we had to make changes. We brought in who I think is the best available offensive coordinator in the country

On the quarterback situation

“We have three guys who will get reps. I’ve been asked a lot about why we didn’t go out and get an experienced quarterback, but we didn’t go get a guy in the transfer portal because if we did, we wouldn’t get a real read on who we have. The hope is that one of our three guys – Garrett Greene, Will “Goose” Crowder and Nicco Marchiol – will take the reins and be the starter this year. If one of those guys don’t really step up, we will go out and get someone.”

Other notes:

  • Offensive linemen Wyatt Milum and Brandon Yates will switch positions on the line this season. Milum will move to left tackle and Brandon Yates will move over to right tackle.
  • Brown said that this defensive team is the most athletic, fast group that he’s had at West Virginia.
  • Akheem Mesidor and Mike O’Laughlin will both be out for the Spring while they recover from injuries.
  • Graham Harrell has total control over the offense, according to Neal Brown.
