Morgantown, West Virginia – Another day, more drama surrounding the head coaching search at Auburn.

While we reported earlier that West Virginia Head Coach Neal Brown would not be interviewed for the position, several reports coming out this evening suggests that Brown is not only being vetted by Auburn but will also be offered an interview.

There’s a growing sense that no candidate will satisfy the entire Auburn fanbase, but that Brown would be a potential compromise coach that would not be make any faction overly disappointed or angry.

Steven Godfrey, a very well-connected journalist in the SEC, claimed this evening that Brown “might be the best positioned (candidate) to bridge the chasms between various factions on The Plains.”

In addition, College Football Central claims that the Neal Brown to Auburn rumors are starting to “pick up” and that he will be offered an interview soon. They also claim that Brown would be a “huge hire” if he does in fact take the job.

While this is a very complicated and fluid situation, there does appear be people at Auburn that want Neal Brown as their next head coach.  Whether Auburn actually extends an offer for an interview, or whether Brown would actually interview for the position, remains to be seen.

It seems like it would be very easy for Brown to address the rumors by simply saying, “I’m committed to West Virginia University and look forward to many years here in Morgantown. I am not interested in any other position and I will not interview anywhere else”, but he simply hasn’t done that yet.
