Neal Brown’s Comments Following West Virginia’s Huge Win Over Iowa State

Morgantown, West Virginia – The West Virginia Mountaineers pulled off a huge upset win over the #22 ranked Iowa State Cyclones today and head coach Neal Brown was obviously very pleased with the performance of his team.  Here’s what he had to say about today’s win:

On Iowa State and Matt Campbell: I have a ton of respect for Coach Campbell and his whole staff at Iowa State.  We’ve really tried to emulate what they’ve done there and it’s a big win when we can beat them.  We had that 42-6 score from last year where they beat us so bad posted everywhere.  We wanted to make up for that.

On WVU’s offense: Offensively, we were 5-5 in the redzone with 4 touchdowns.  We really got it done when we needed it.  We went 9-15 on third downs and 1-1 on 4th downs.

On Jarret Doege: I thought Jarret Doege was huge.  You talked about a guy that has been really beaten up unfairly, but he had an incredible performance.  That kid is a great kid and he’s been put through it a bit and he answered today.  I’m really proud of him.

On the officiating: I lost it on the refs on the pass interference call, but really, this is such a tough game to call.  There were so many bang-bang calls and it’s challenging to get all of them right.  I’m sure they didn’t like some of the calls and we didn’t like some of the calls at the time, but ultimately I think we have the best referee crews in the nation here in the Big 12.
